UMC Story Images - An image collection for UMC campaigns

Post by Crendgrim »

I just uploaded an add-on to the server called "Story Images". For this is the campaign development forum, I think it's the best to be announced here. If you know a better place, please move it.
The add-on includes many story images (120 by now) to be used in UMC campaigns. I created this collection, because I think it's a pity to have artwork lost in some older UMC campaigns or the forums.
In the _main.cfg file there is a list of all authors and their files.

If anyone finds work of his own in the add-on he doesn't want to be there, please contact me and I'll remove it. On the other hand, if you have more artwork, please tell me and I'll be glad to include it, too :)

So, I hope this add-on will prove useful for UMC authors who are lacking story images.

EDIT: changed thread title to fit the new add-on name

A nice work!
Thank you so much, Crendgrim. They are definitely useful.
There are some nice story images on "The Eight of Cembulad" which is on 1.4 add-ons server. I personally would like to update it on one day if I have an extra time. But it won't happen soon at least.

One question, could you tell me which add-ons you got "landscape-plain_nohumans.jpg"? I remember that I modified it in some ago, but I am not sure that anyone else is using it. It will be nice to hear if you picked it up from someone else's campaign.:)
Spoiler:
Fate of a Princess/feedback thread: "What is in own heart that is the most important, not who you are."
Drake Campaign: Brave Wings/feedback thread, Naga Campaign: Return of the Monster, Saurian Campaign: Across the Ocean

listing credits in a text file would indeed be nice.

nice work. there's another valuable resource package called "UMC Music" - would be nice if you could rename your add-on to "UMC Story Images".

The credits are already listed in the _main.cfg. :)

Ooops, sorry. I meant "in active" =contactable.
I should've used a dictionary for the word...

Okay. Much feedback.
I'll go through it point for point and hope that I won't miss anything.

Okay, thanks :)
I'll add everything if it's worth it.
SkyOne wrote:One question, could you tell me which add-ons you got "landscape-plain_nohumans.jpg"?
I think it was from one of your add-ons, actually. I first listed you separately, but since it's quite similar to kitty's work I decided to move it to "core files and derivates of them". If you want to be named, I can do that of course ;)
SkyOne wrote:Not necessary, but finding the authors as much as possible will be more polite as you know.
Yes, I wanted to write to those campaign's authors and ask them about the art creators. They don't mention them in their campaigns, so I wasn't able yet to get to know who they are.

That's a good idea. :)
Neuromancer wrote:This and upload it please on 1.9 server too.
Yes, of course, somehow I forgot that yesterday. However, I'll first collect what was pointed to me and then upload the new package also on 1.9.
Neuromancer wrote:btw any plans on making UMC portraits collection? I can help with that or start the project if there are people willing to help with that.
Well, I'd like to help you there. Sounds like a good idea. ;)
Could become quite big though, so I didn't want to start on it only on myself.

Should I better move them to another file? credits.txt for example?

Soo... I think I got everything :P Actually more feedback than I expected. Thank you all.
Now I'm gonna collect images from the threads / campaigns you pointed me to and then upload the package "UMC Story Images" on both servers.

Double post, because the old one is getting too long if I announce the new version.

So:

UMC Story Images 0.0.2 released
I renamed the add-on as Max suggested. It's now finally available on both servers (1.8 and 1.9).
Changelog:

Code: Select all

+ added story images from the campaign The Eight of Cembulad (for BfW 1.4)
  + added tempel1.jpg & tempel3.jpg (unknown creator)
I first removed the add-on for 1.8 by accident, so there could be update problems. I don't know how the server handles foolish persons like me :P

Elvish_Hunter:
Regarding tempel1.jpg and tempel3.jpg; do you remember who created them? They're the only files from your thread I didn't find yet.

A Google search pointed me here. It was Mille.
Also, in TSoG I have a background called book_9.jpg. I've made it, and you can add it to the pack. In the same folder (images/story) there is also a rotated image of the Sceptre of Fire, that I taken from Wesnoth SVN attic (original is here).

I read the whole thread :augh: Well, nearly the whole. Somehow I oversaw that.

OK, I will add them as well as I will name Mille in 0.0.3. Thanks :)

You might want to change not only the name to UMC Story Images, but also the folder name of the addon to reflect that.

UMC Story Images 0.0.3 released
The folder was renamed. Thank you for pointing me to it, Scaeb.
However, this seems to have confused Wesnoth, so my add-on was online twice on both servers after re-uploading it. :P
It would be great if a admin could remove the older of them on the 1.9 server. On the stable server I managed to delete it by creating an (mostly) empty add-on with the old folder name and the key and then pressing "remove". However, this workaround didn't work on 1.9.
Due to this, I fear it's again not possible to update :( I'm very sorry about that...

I verified many files' licenses (thanks to Elvish_Hunter and MountainKing for their help) and deleted some of them. Please refer to the full changelog which is to be found in the _main.cfg at the very bottom for further information.
However, I'm still missing an answer from the campaign authors of Love to Death. Should I remove them until the licensing issue is fixed? Or rely on them being GPL for I found them in a GPL'ed package myself?
