Wrath of Kaifar - A 2 player Survival scenario

Post by Lord-Knightmare »

Hello, everyone! :D

I'm making a multiplayer scenario entitled Wrath of Kaifar and it is my first multiplayer survival scenario. As this is my first MP scenario, I am a bit new to the map balancing as well as the enemy wave composition. The scenario is for 1.11.x and it's on the server yet, so, download and play

Also, the scenario requires the Era of Chaos to be installed as a requirement, since the theme is After the Fall.... In case, if you're wondering about the story text...It's related to TLB, and many other campaigns.

Have fun trying it out :)

Known Issues:-

1. Heavily Unbalanced
2. The last wave is known to be f***ing impossible (Please prove me wrong...)

Hello.

We (I and bumbadadabum) played this scenario and found it quite... unbalanced. Here's a list of the exact issues.
  • Enemies spawn and attack right away. This is especially annoying because they can appear quite close to your troops, so there isn't really a way to avoid losing a few units when the next wave arrives. It'd be also nice to know when to expect new enemies.
  • Enemies can spawn in the middle of deep sea area, rendering them incapable of movement.
  • The northern player seems to get more enemies than the southern one.
  • Shroud is rather pointless. You'll learn the map in one or two games, so it won't hide anything anyways.
  • All islands have 2 villages, except for one.
  • There's only 2 villages per side that players can actually use to heal their units. At least one more village near the castle (for both players) would be nice.
  • Slightly higher income or village gold would be better.
  • Is there anything else than "story" reasons (which pretty much nobody cares about in survival scenarios) to tie this map to Era of Chaos?
  • The elvish leader - and maybe others, but I noticed only this one - starts speaking after disappearing from the map.
Otherwise, it looks promising.

I thought players liked getting ambushed. BTW, I specified the arrival time of the coming enemy waves (see objectives)
Enemies can spawn in the middle of deep sea area, rendering them incapable of movement.
Oops...
The northern player seems to get more enemies than the southern one.
That seems odd. I will check that out.
Shroud is rather pointless. You'll learn the map in one or two games, so it won't hide anything anyways.
I know that it is. I shall remove it. But, is there anyway I can make the enemy leader hidden without the player spotting him?
All islands have 2 villages, except for one.
I shall check that out.

Okay, I shall give players +1 village gold and +1 bonus income
Is there anything else than "story" reasons (which pretty much nobody cares about in survival scenarios) to tie this map to Era of Chaos?
The story is just something I thought of. This is linked to the Era of Chaos in terms of wave composition.
The elvish leader - and maybe others, but I noticed only this one - starts speaking after disappearing from the map.
Must be a bug. Needs to be fixed.
Otherwise, it looks promising.
Thank you for your feedback. I shall try to meet all of the issues you reported...

I have some ideas for some improvements, but I am not sure of what they would do to the scenario

Varying Enemy Waves

Instead of the fixed attackers, would it be fun if random waves appeared from a selection?

First Wave: Orcs / Wild Humans / Dwarves
Second Wave: Elementals / Sylvans
Third Wave: Nagas / Merfolk
Fourth Wave: Vampires/ Aragwaith
Fifth Wave: Chaos Empire (Damn, I can't think of anything better to serve as their alternates) (Only if the EoC added the Nightmares of Meleon)
FInal Wave: Undead (No changing this one!)

Varying location of Boss

The boss could appear at any one of the five black structures instead of just the centre...

Encampment Hexes

Maybe the players could use some of these at convenient locations.

Please post your thoughts about the aforementioned stuff...

It's been some time since I've played one of your campaigns, so I have no idea what leaders to pick as actual members of the Alliance of Irdya. Any tips?

A multiplayer scenario, for starters. As lore suggests, members for Alliance of Irdya covers a wide array of races, nations, and factions. It takes place long after the Fall of Wesnoth, probably a little earlier than Invasion from the Unknown. It's mostly covered in the central Great Continent, away from Wesnoth (as I didn't really want to interfere with IftU and AtS in any way). Thus, I would suggest any faction that's not Chaos, Shaxthal or Infernals.

Why do I lose when either of the allied leaders dies, instead of when both die, or maybe even when my last unit dies?

Some sound for the appearance of my enemies would be nice. It looks very dark and magical.

Lord-Knightmare wrote: January 3rd, 2020, 7:22 pm I specified the defeat condition as 'death of any allied leader'
This includes both you and the allied leader.
Given the difficulty of this scenario, I might consider just making it the death of both leaders as the main defeat condition.
I'm questioning your choice for the defeat condition.
Have any sound in mind? I was thinking the magicmissile one when mages attack with their ranged spell.
I'm all for the sound an Ancient Lich produces when he casts shadow wave.

Also, I'm convinced that this scenario is unbeatable unless one knows in advance what the last wave does and plans for it.

Need a laugh? Here's a funny thing 1.16 wmllint does to the 1.11 version of this: It wants to change your old nick to Tahsin Jahin Dune Paragon.... :- D

BTW if curious the 1.11 runs fine under 1.16 with no changes. Nice.
