Heroic Last Stand Multiplayer Scenario

Post by Sir-Jaques »

Here is a Multiplayer Scenario that I am developing. It is in the testing phase right now. I'd love to hear about any bugs in the code so I can fix them.

Some of this code is adapted from the scenario "Colesseum" by Frezycus.

This scenario pits three heros against a single enemy who gets much harder as the game progresses. None of the Heros can recruit any units, but they are aided by the fact that they can use gold to advance themselves. Gold is earned for every enemy killed. Like I said before, I am still testing it and would greatly appreciate some feedback. After this is finished, I will place it on the Add-ons server.

Well, I tried it (Heroic Last Stand era; map settings) and won at turn 5, with all three units alive. I used a Ghost, a Dark Adept and a Thunderer. After I had put the Thunderer on the mountain at 8,6, the Lich went in for a somewhat successful attack. Then I used the Dark Adept and leveled Ghost (Wraith) to pwn it. So, it needs work, I guess. A Dark Adept, for example, can use the initial 100 gold to attack with 10-4 ranged/58 HP. The Lich has only 12-3/60 HP. You probably want to restrict the Lich's movement to the upper area and give it more health and attack power.

Thanks for pointing that out. I need to change the Lich to have 0 moves so he will stay in his castle. Also I think he could do with a bit more income for the first part. (turns 0-8) I'll make the changes and post an updated version.

It also needs more health and attack power. Either that or you have to change its resistances drastically. It has -40% for arcane; the Dark Adept and Ghost have arcane attacks. They could buy extra movement points and skirmisher, and still kill the Lich easily. In one game, the Lich stayed on the Castle Keep, and I could kill it at turn 2 with a Dwarvish Ulfserker (15 gold: a movement point; 30 gold: skirmisher; 30 gold: +3 melee damage, 25 gold: +25 HP).

[Edit: Skirmisher isn't even required, because the level 0 units have no zone of control.]

Skirmisher becomes more important from the second wave on (turn 8 ) when the Lich receives the ability to produce lv 1 units and some more gold. At turn 12 he can produce lv 2 units and at lv 15 he can produce lv 3 and 4 units. I think I will modify the map to make the Lich much harder to get at so that the player will be forced to fight all of the waves before they can attack the Lich.

Here is the updated version of the game. I have extended the map size and tucked the Lich away in a passageway. Hopefully this will prevent anyone from winning immediately and force them to play the entire scenario as I had originally intended.

This version is much better.

I noticed that in this version, the heroes each get 150 gold; maybe change this to 100?
Note that buying 5 HP will fully heal a hero.
The scenario is probably the easiest to finish with Ghosts (see attached replay). I also tried other unit types and then the scenario is a challenge. That's good, a scenario that is not impossible but takes some effort.
One thing I ran into is that the AI sometimes took a long time to think about its moves. That happens when many units - over fifty, at some point - try to kill strong heroes. It's the same in the later levels of Colosseum. That's not the scenario's fault though, it has to do with my computer's CPU.

I have made a few minor changes and added five different difficulty levels (the only difference being the amount of starting gold which ranges from 200 to 60). I realize that buying 5 hp will fully heal the hero and I am thinking about changing that to only adding 5 hps, however that change would make the scenario a bit harder. Thanks again for your work in testing this.

If you are surrounded you can't upgrade. I had over 100 Gold when I got killed.

There should be a possibility to upgrade even when you are standing in the castle and can't move out and back in.

I added a right click menu item so you can upgrade even when surrounded. The scenario is now on the server.

I know it's been a while since I've done anything, but I recently rediscovered this scenario and decided to migrate it to 1.12.

I also fixed some small bugs in it and added a 2 player mode.
