Sapient's MP Map Pack (v3 released)

Post by Sapient »

I didn't move it to the dev server yet because... I guess just being lazy. :)

I would like to actually update the content a little bit before I transfer it, instead of simply moving everything over as it is.
To give people a little bit more, and as a thanks for all the downloads.

I am really curious which maps people liked the most and how they could be improved.

I'd say the most popular map was the Royal Rumble Lava Village map. I was always getting question about how to get the map with the "dark tome". It was probably my favorite, especially since there was no way to run away from an enemy.

The Northern RPG was good too (though it could do with being four times as long).
My current projects:
MP pirate campaign: The Altaz Mariners
RPG sequel: Return to Trent
MP stealth campaign: Den of Thieves

It all depends, I guess. I never got into tomb of kings much, but I was a big fan of traitor's island for a while, boasting a 13-4 record with our insane knalgan+loyalist combo.

Once and if I get time, I might look into your 1.2.x version of the map pack... a little more in depth.

I've enjoyed playing lava village, though the first-turn advantage is a beast--you can recruit directly in front of a leader, effectively cutting them off from the center villages and tome.

Well, one way is to play with an RPG era so nobody can recruit. I'm not sure how the map was designed to be played, but I always liked playing with one unit per player. Sometimes it is nice to play Default, since you can give the Tome to another unit.

Hi all! I am very happy to announce that this Mappack is now available for the development version campaing server. Many thanks to Mythological who has assisted with bringing the WML up to speed and added some minor tweaks. It has lots of translations available. Try it now! :)

I was making the rounds of mp content on 1.8, and wanted to give this thread a bump.

Some new players may not know the history behind Sapient's mp map pack, but it was quite a breakthrough when it was first released! It features the Northerner RPG which is quite fun, and a great stepping stone for anyone interested in playing RPG style wesnoth.

I am probably not going to update those maps for 1.8 because they are a bit outdated and I was never totally satisfied with the balance, either. Thanks for the vote of support, though.

Ah, you're welcome. I updated it back in January just for nostalgia. I am not currently maintaining this, although I will try to fix any bugs that people find. If anyone wants to develop this map pack further, let me know and I'll send you the .pbl file.

I don't know if this is important, but I made two minor tweaks to Northerner RPG. I removed the explicit undead declarations (so the bats are now normal), and I changed that shallow water bridge in the cave to dirt.

Ok, quick update.
I finally added "Twisted Outpost" to the map pack.
Also I added a new creation, "4p Morituri, FFA Mod".

Comments and balance discussions for the new maps are welcome.

As for the old maps, they are probably unbalanced and just retained for nostalgia purposes, but feel free to comment on those if you want to offer any suggestions as well.

I see you have a credits.txt and a changelog.txt, which I totally did not notice before. Thank you for updating those for me.

About the version number: At http://addons.wesnoth.org/1.4/, the version number is "v.2". I must have interpreted that as 0.2, which is why my update was labeled 0.3.x. Now that I finally see the changelog.txt, it looks like I messed up.

Sapient's MP Map Pack (v4 released)

Post by Atreides »

I've ported this to 1.14/16, many thanks to all the prior torchbearers for keeping it going and most of all to Sapient for creating it.

The translations do need a bit of touching up since I was forced to correct a little bit of the text. I can do the German myself but help would be appreciated for the rest. I'm pretty sure it's only a handful of sentences that need fixing.
